Tips
10 Garage/Yard Sale Tips.
1. If something is under 25 cents – don’t sell it. Donate it,
recycle it, or have a FREE basket at your garage sale.
2. Don’t overprice items. People go to garage sale to get deals, so
give them a deal or they will walk away.
3. Group like things together. Serious yard salers usually
want to cover a lot of territory in a day and this will help
them out. In addition, your presentation will look neater and
more appealing. People often drive by slowly and check out from
the road to see if it is “worth stopping”. Having a great and
organized presentation will encourage them to stop.
4. Label everything in advance. Don’t leave people guessing.
Many people will walk away if there is no price on it. Either
that or you will be leaving yourself open for haggling.
5. Use proper tables. Do not have your garage sale on the
ground. It is very difficult to squat and lean over for
browsing. Tables look neater and more appealing to passersby.
6. Have enough change and cash available, but when your
change purse starts filling up, skim the majority of it and put
it away in the house to prevent from losing it or being robbed.
7. Pick a time and stick to it; for example 9am-3pm.
8. Recruit help from friends to make it more fun and get a
little help. Running a yard sale can be pretty boring sometimes.
9. Suggest having a street sale or coordinating with a few
neighbours. Group sales will attract a lot of traffic to your
area and make your sale even more successful.
10. Advertise. Signs with balloons will attract people to
your location, and advertise in advance in the local newspaper.
